Buffalo

Posted by Picasa

At a scenic viewpoint in the Theodore Roosevelt National park in the North Dakota Badlands, we ran into this guy.

Apparently, they just have him corraled at the viewpoint there so people driving by can see a buffalo. I felt kind of bad for him, although he seemed content.

In the restroom there, there was a sign that said that while buffalo may appear docile, they weight a ton and can run three times as fast as humans -- so don't get too close and be careful. While I was pointing my telephoto lens at him, he rocked back and forth and got up. I got scared like a little girl and scampered away. He just wanted to eat some grass, though.

It's amazing a creature that big lives on grass.
